This is an intensely rich, dense chocolate tart so if you’re looking for something light and fluffy steer clear! The top of the tart becomes shiny and crackled much like a brownie but the interior does not resemble a brownie or cake in any way. The inside, like smittenkitchen.com suggests, is more like a truffle. The tart filling is very easy to make and the Oreo crust is even easier!
Rich Chocolate Truffle Tart with Oreo Crust
Makes 10 servings
Total Time: 1 hour
• 3 tbsp melted butter
• 18 whole Oreo cookies, crushed
• 12 ounces bittersweet chocolate chips
• 1 cup heavy whipping cream
• 2 large egg yolks
• 1 large egg
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
• Pinch of salt
• 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Sweetened Whipped Cream, for serving
Preheat oven to 325°F. Crush cookies in a plastic bag with a rolling pin or in a food processor to form fine crumbs and then add the melted butter. Mix together with your hands and press the crumb mixture firmly into a 9″ pie pan.
Combine chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream in a medium saucepan. Whisk over low heat until chocolate is melted and smooth and remove from heat to cool. Whisk remaining ingredients in a medium bowl. Very slowly temper the egg mixture with a small amount of chocolate to prevent scrambling the eggs. Add the rest of the chocolate mixture in and stir until blended. Pour filling into crust and bake about 35-40 min until the center doesn’t jiggle. Cool tart at room temp then place in fridge. Serve in thin slices with sweetened whipped cream.
